In the UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination, each paper has a time limit of 3 hours (180 Minutes).
General Studies Papers:
- Out of 3 hours (180 min) the student has to spend his/her first 5 minutes on reading the question paper, and the last 5 minutes should be given for reviewing the answers.
- So, the student has remaining 2 hours 50 minutes (170 minutes) of time to write the exam.

Essay:
